Nepse Wrap up (Review period 2th Feb to 6th Feb, 2014)

The secondary market of Nepal coming to the end of the week witnessed a revive in its strength, as the stock index added 4.35 points after a dismal performance in the initial days of the week--the benchmark index closed at 785.78 levels.
Continuing its sluggish performance, the market suffered loss of 5.51 and 6.41 points in the first two days of the week’s trade respectively. However, coming to the end of the week, the NEPSE witnessed a surge of 5.40, 6.45 and 4.42 points respectively in remaining trading days.
With the country on the verge of observing a formation of elected government after the space of more than a year or so, the sentiment of investors towards market is getting stronger again, in recent days.
Moreover, the investors’ expectation of Congress led government, which is assumed by many as favorable for the capital market, has helped to pump more demand in the market.
Mostly, the increase in the demand of the BFIs, insurance and hydro scrips were observed this week.
The later surge in the demand of commercial banks’ shares attributed in narrowing the Banking sector’s loss to meagre 1.90 points from more than 20 points. While, two of the remaining BFIs sub-indices recorded healthy growth of 16.62 and 8.04 points respectively.
Similarly, Insurance and Hydro sustained double digit soar of 59.54 and 52.30 points respectively. Likewise, Others also increased by double digit figure of 10.57 points and Trading inclined by 5.91 points. As for Hotels, it plunged by 7.01 points.
In case of, Sensitive index, which measures the movement of blue chip companies, it inclined by 0.37 points to settle at 172.91 levels. Likewise, Float index, which measures the movement of ordinary shares only, also increased by 0.33 points to settle at 52.49 levels.
All in all, the 148 scrips were traded this week, out of which 84 scrips gained, 16 remained intact and 48 scrips lost.
The best performer this week among the traded scrips was International Development Bank Ltd. (INDBL), closed at Rs 140, with a gain of Rs 25 or 21.74 percent. Whereas, NIDC Capital Markets Ltd. (NCM), closed at Rs 149, was the worst performer among all with a decline of Rs 22 or 12.87 percent.
The scrip with the highest turnover was Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company Limited (AHPC), closed at 698, with 166,367 units worth Rs 109,185,264 which was carried out by 374 transactions.
The total turnover of the market for this week stood at Rs 1,211,494,766, totaling 3,344,882 share units which were traded through 13,151 transactions. The market capitalization at the end of the week tallied at 799,994.71 Millions.
