Nepse Wrap up (Review period 26th May to 30th May, 2013)

The market index this week also continued to dangle in 500 levels; though the market surpassed 503 levels on the second day of the trade, the upheaval in the political arena of the country forced the investors to take more precautions leading to downhill in the last two days of trade. However, compared to the previous week’s closing, the local bourse made a gain of 3.27 points; to close at 500.15 levels.

In addition to the progress of Nepse, the failure of Nepal Stock Exchange to update its official website on Thursday, led into information blackout regarding market movement and trade volume on that day among the investors, resulting in confusion and misunderstanding.

As for the movement of sub-indices this week, apart from the Manufacturing loss of 10.95 points all remaining sector settled in the green zone. Insurance sector this week also continued to make hefty jump as the sector inclined by 34.47 points; the requirement set by the Rastriya Beema Sansthan for insurance companies to increase their capital base has been one of the main reasons for the high demand in insurance scrips in recent days. Similarly, Banking, Development and Finance made a jump of 2.35, 3.34 and 3.01 points respectively. Likewise, Hotels and Others made a soar of 3.21 and 2.35 points respectively while Hydro ascended by 7.73 points.

Overall, there were only 112 scrips traded among which 60 scrips increased 16 remained intact and 36 scrips decreased. The highest gainer among the scrips traded this week was Siddhartha Insurance Limited (SIL), closed at Rs 265, with Rs 168 or 34.51% gain. Whereas, Sahayogi Vikas Bank (SBBLJ), closed at Rs 237, was the highest loser with Rs 62 or 20.74% loss.

In terms of the highest shares traded among mutual fund, Nabil Balance Fund 1 (NBF1), closed at Rs 10.50, topped with 347,347 units whereas among the ordinary scrips trading above par, National LifeInsu. Co. Ltd. (NLICL), closed at Rs 531, topped with 265,830 units. As for highest transaction, Commerz and Trust Bank Nepal Ltd. (CTBNL), closed at Rs 145, topped with 1,086 transactions.

In case of highest turnover, NLICL  topped with turnover worth Rs 133,000,960 via 29 transactions; in which Broker no 6 (Agrawal Securities Pvt. Limited) was the most active Broker with 49.62% stand alone dealing of NLICL, tallying 263,953 units worth Rs 131,985,910 via 7 transactions in which  includes one matching transaction totaling 22 units worth Rs 11,220.

The week’s turnover was about Rs 417.335 million with average of Rs 104.33 million which is Rs 33.04 million or 46% higher than prior week’s average. Overall 1,495,704 units of shares were traded via 4,886 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of the review period was Rs 495,563.64 million.
