Sharesansar, 29th March:

The secondary market of Nepal this week also continued to down fall as the local bourse came down by 9.21 points, compared to previous week’s closing, to close at 518.77 levels. In the previous week the market index made a hefty loss of 20.42 following the huge plunge in the level of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC); this week also the plummet in the Nepse index was mainly contributed by the NTC as the scrip came down by Rs 27. As NTC ranks first in term of huge capital based company listed in Nepse, worth Rs 15 billion, the price movement of such scrip has tremendous affect in the entire market movement.

Apart from affect of the NTC movement, the market participation in secondary market was also low this week as the daily average turnover stood at Rs 81.03 million which is lower by Rs 17.89 million or 18.08% than the previous week. The total shares traded for the week was also lower as it tallied around 1,035,174 units which were carried out by 4,499 transactions worth Rs 324.15 million. With the Initial Public offering (IPO) and New Fund Offer (NFO) of the companies and mutual fund prevailing in the market, the investors seems to have diverted their funds in this primary market and seems to be holding the fund for the IPO of NLG Insurance company limited and Mega bank Limited which ultimately has lower the market participation.

The increment in the level of Citizen Investment Trust (CIT) and Prabhu Finance Company Limited (PRFL), by Rs 40 and Rs 10 respectively, mainly sustained the finance sector in the green pasture. Whereas, jump in the level of Bottlers Nepal (Terai) Ltd. (BNT) by Rs 49 pushed the Manufacturing sector further north.
