Nepse Wrap up (Review period 23th December to 27th December, 2012)

Nepal Stock Exchange this week had a remarkable surge as the market index for the entire week traded in a bullish trend. The benchmark index that opened with 517.87 points this week had a meager gain in the first two days of the trade but on the third trading day the local bourse made a hefty jump of 10.84 points followed by nearly 5 points gain on the next day. Overall, Nepse surge by 23.23 or 4.49% this week as compared to previous week’s closing; the closing level of Nepse this week was at 541.1 points.
With the presence of high liquidity in the market and growing confidence of the investor has eventually led to the boost in the market turnover in recent days. The turnover amount this week also took a huge leap despite of four day trade; the daily average turnover stood around Rs 168 million which is higher by Rs 18 million than that of the previous week’s average. The overall turnover for the week tallied near to Rs 673 million and altogether 1,892,269 units of share were traded through 7380 transactions. The market capitalization at the end of the review period stood around Rs 521,288.79 million which compared to previous week was Rs 108,101.56 million higher.
Among the sector indices, Banking sector made a huge gain as it added 37.73 or 7.56% points in its tally. Among the 27 scrips traded under it this week, only Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd (NBBL) had a drop in its level whereas the scrips of Nepal Bank Limited (NBL), Nabil Bank Ltd. (NABIL), Standard Chartered Bank Ltd. (SCB), Nepal SBI Bank Limited (NSBI) and Bank of Kathmandu (BOK) all incremented by more than Rs 50.
Likewise, Hydro followed with a 16.93 point jump as all the scrips traded under it made an improvement than prior week i.e. Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company Limited (AHPC), Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPCL) and Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) rose by Rs 5, Rs 5 and Rs 24 respectively. Similarly, Others also made an incline of 5.88 points as the price of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited soar by Rs 5.
As for Insurance and Hotels, both increased by 3.83 and 2.45 points respectively. Ascend in the price of Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC), Sagarmatha Insurance Co. Ltd (SIC) and Nepal Insurance Co. Ltd. (NICL) by Rs 55, Rs 22 and Rs 16 mainly contributed in the Insurance growth whereas the jump in the level of Oriental Hotel Ltd. and Taragaon Regency Hotel by Rs 3 each helped to sustain the sector in green pasture.
While, Finance and Manufacturing were the only sectors which suffered loss; Finance sector plummeted by 9.35 points and Manufacturing by 17.50 points. Under Manufacturing, the fall in the price of Uniliver Nepal Ltd. (UNL) by Rs 395 mainly pulled the sector down; this scrip was the first in Nepal’s secondary market history to cross the ten thousand mark, this week the scrip has closed at Rs 9,685.
Among other sub-indices, Sensitive index increased by 10.05 or 7.57% to settle at 142.74 levels while Float index also climbed by 0.93 or 2.59% points to settle at 36.79 levels.
In overall week transaction, Nilgiri Bikas Bank Limited (NGBL), closed at Rs 187, was the Top Gainer with Rs 58 or 44.96%. On the other side, Nepal Consumer Development Bank Ltd. (NCDBL), closed at Rs 320, was the Top Loser with Rs 53 or 33.13%. Whereas, KIST Bank Limited (KIST), closed at Rs 157, had the highest shares traded with 198,193 units.
In case of highest transaction and turnover, Bank of Kathmandu (BOK), closed at 734, topped with 559 transactions totaling 114,473 units worth Rs 80,423,895; in which Broker No 6 (Agrawal Securities Pvt. Limited) was the active broker with 16.44% stand alone dealing of BOK, tallying 18,681 units worth Rs 13,218,870 via 72 transactions which includes 13 matching transactions totaling 5,223 units worth Rs 3,691,539.
