Nepse Wrap up (Review period 23rd Sep to 27th Sep)

With the start of the week Nepal Stock Exchange drastically came down by 5.27 points. After the benchmark index made the high of 425.47 levels on 18th September, the local bourse has been in a correction phase. However, the market index showed little sign of recovery on the last day of the trade as it improved by 2.05 points to close at 415.70; which is the highest level of the week. As compared to previous week closing, the benchmark index still suffered a loss of 4.74 points.

 

The book closure of Chilime Hydro Power Co. Ltd. (CHCL) made an impact upon Hydro sector’s market share as it came down by more than 1 % compared to the previous week. After the adjustment price, the CHCL was opened at Rs 881 and fell by Rs 11 to close at Rs 870 till the end of the week. In spite of CHCL book closure it maintained the highest turnover of the week's worth Rs 91,627,198. However, the Hydro sector still managed to grow by 1.28 or 0.15% points as an increase in the price of Arun Valley (AHPC) and Butwal (BPCL) aided in its growth. Other gainers for the week were, Insurance, Finance, Others and Trading with 20.14 or 3.06%, 0.96 or 0.37%, 7.05 or 1% and 2.53 or 1.47% incline respectively.

 

The huge surge in Insurance sector came with the jump in the price of Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC) , Prime Life Insurance Company Limited (PLIC), Rastriya Beema Sansthan (RBS), Sagarmatha Insurance Co.Ltd (SIC), National Life Insu. Co.Ltd.(NLICL) by Rs 77, Rs 25, Rs 17, Rs 15 and  Rs 12 respectively. Though the scrip of NTC fall by Rs 12 in the opening day, at the end of the week it was able to gain Rs 6 than the previous week closing which helped the Other sector to incline this week. In Finance sector, the gain in Citizen Investment Trust (CIT) by Rs 96 mainly contributed in its surge.

 

As for Hotels, Development and Banking all plummeted by 5.64 or 0.97%, 2.64 or 1.05% and 10.59 or 2.89% points respectively. The heavy decline in Banking was due to the two digit drop in the prices of BOK, SCB, NABIL, EBL, HBL, NSBI, GLOBAL IME, SBL and NBBL. Among the 26 scrips traded under Banking sector there were only two gainer in the sector they were NIBL and MBL. Similarly in the development sector also, the fall in the prices of KAN, MBBL, NLBBL, DDBL, SADBL, KBBL, SMFDB and BSBL dragged the sector this week.

 

Among other sub-indices, Sensitive index decline of 1.40 or 1.30% to settle at 106.65 levels while Float index also suffered a loss of 0.66 or 2.10% to close at 30.78 levels.

 

Overall there were 121 scrips traded among which 38 scrips increased, 5 remain intact and 78 scrips decreased this week. The highest loser for the week among the scrip trading over par was Bank of Kathmandu (BOK), closed at Rs 514, with Rs 76 or 12.88%. Whereas, Bageshowori Dev. Bank (BBBLN), closed at Rs 150, was the Top Gainer with Rs 22 or 17.19%. In case of highest share traded, KIST Bank Limited (KIST), closed at Rs 114, topped with 243,813 units.


Total turnover for the week was about Rs 435,643,892which is comparatively Rs 26,028,702 or 5.63% lower than the prior week. Overall 1,296,879 units of shares were traded via 7,358 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of the review period was Rs 393,386.35million which is lower by Rs 4,487.64million compare to previous week’s closing.
