Nepse Wrap up (Review period 22nd Dec to 26th Dec, 2013)

Making a correction, the stock index this week plunged by 18.29 points compared to previous closing, to settle at 787.36 levels.

Following the massive rally of the prior week , that propelled the market index beyond the 800 levels, the profit booking from the investors were observed from the beginning of this week’s trade, attributing to heap of selling   pressure in the first two days.

Mounted by such pressure, the market witnessed 51 month’s high correction of 26.47 points on Tuesday. The local bourse on that came to close at 768.72 levels. Prior to this, the secondary market came to make such downfall was on 9th August, 2009; during which market plunged by 27.42 points.

However, fuelled by the positive political development of four points deal among the major parties, the NEPSE index witnessed incredible bounce back from the Tuesday.

The market, which was on the freefall in the beginning session of Tuesday, made an amazing retrieve of 8.48 points following the agreement amongst political parties on evening of that day. Similarly, on the  subsequent day, the market came to observe 15 minute suspension after 3 percent increment in the first half hour of trade but failed to retain the gain as at the end of the day it limited to 1.31 percent only.  

In the midst of market volatility, the liquidity in the market continues to remain healthy as this week also, the total market turnover came to total at Rs 2,266,847,871, totaling 5,363,981 share units which were carried out through 14,961 transactions which are higher than last week’s figure.

As for the movement of sub-indices, Banking alongside Others and Hydro made the double digit plunge. Banking suffered a loss of 31.61 points followed by Others with 23.49 points while Hydro witnessed the highest decline of 50.20 points. Similarly, Finance also dropped by 5.71 points.

Meanwhile, Insurance made a massive rally of 124.80 points. Alongside it, Development made increment of 8.57 points and Hotels incline by 4.95 points.

In case of, Sensitive index which measures the movement of blue chip companies, it declined by 6.03 points to settle at 176.8 levels.  Likewise, Float index, which measures the movement of ordinary shares only, also tumbled by 7.01 points to settle at 45.98 levels.

All in all, the 140 scrips were traded this week, out of which 68 scrips gained, 4 remained intact and 68 scrips lost.

The best performer this week among the traded scrips was Apex Development Bank Limited (APEX), closed at Rs 146, with a gain of Rs 36 or 32.72 percent. Whereas, Prabhu Bikas Bank Limited (PRBBL), closed at Rs 233, was the worst performer among all with a decline of Rs 52 or 18.25 percent.

The scrip with the highest turnover was Nepal Bank Limited (NBL), closed at 363, with 648,829 units worth Rs 234,171,678 which was carried out by 601 transactions.

The  Broker with the highest transaction of NBL was Broker no 56 (Sri Hari Securities Pvt. Ltd.) with 17.72% standalone dealing of the NBL, tallying 233,224 units worth Rs 82,993,337 via 65 transactions which includes 4 matching transactions worth Rs 19,835,040, totaling 55,920 units of share.
