Nepse Wrap up (Review period 21st to 25th April, 2013)

The secondary market of Nepal this week tumbled by 10.70 points to close at 508.36 levels. The introduction of new provisions by the SEBON to offload the promoter share into ordinary shares directly through the secondary market trading created a sense of dilemma and confusion among investors this week. With this provision, convertibility of promoter shares into ordinary share will be easy which will ultimately increase the supply of ordinary shares in the market.
Apart from it, continuous decline in the market index since past week also has created panic among investor resulting in high selling pressure in fear of more plummet in the level. However, with the start of publication of healthy third quarter report of Banking and Financial Institutions, like EBL, NIB, SANIMA, MNBBL, GBBL , from this week, has somewhat helped to revive the confidence in the investors.
Among the performance of sub –indices this week, Manufacturing made the highest gain with 19.41 points followed by Trading sector with a 7.58 points incline. As for the remaining sub-indices, all suffered loss than the previous week, among which Insurance made a hefty drop of 54.80 points followed by Others sector with a loss of 34.06 points.
In case of the Banking and Financial Institutions sub-indices, Banking lost 12.97 points, Development made decline of 1.49 points and Finance plummeted by 0.57 points. Likewise, Hydro and Hotels also suffered a loss of 5.36 and 10.36 points respectively. Also, Sensitive index declined by 3.03 or 2.31% to settle at 127.97 levels while Float index also lost 0.53 or 1.45% points to settle at 36.03 levels .
Overall there were only 113 scrips traded among which 30 scrips increased 10 remained intact and 72 scrips decreased. The highest gainer among the scrips traded this week was Bank of Kathmandu Promoter Share (BOKPO), closed at Rs 560, with Rs 337 or 151.11% gain. Among the ordinary scrips trading above par, Subhechha Bikas Bank Limited (SUBBL), closed at Rs 111, was the best performer with Rs 12 or 12.12% gain. Whereas, Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC), closed at Rs 1331, was the highest loser with Rs 863 or 39.33% loss following the price adjustment by Nepse.
In terms of the highest shares traded among ordinary scrips, National Hydro Power Co. (NHPC), closed at Rs 77, topped with 108,875 units whereas among the ordinary scrips trading above par, Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBB), closed at Rs 297, topped with 100,037 units. As for highest transaction, Civil Bank Ltd (CBL), closed at Rs 156, topped with 309 times.
In case of highest turnover, Everest Bank Ltd (EBL), closed at Rs 1560, topped with 29,375 units worth Rs 45,185,109 via 165 transactions; in which Broker no 44 (Dynamic Money Managers Securities Pvt.Ltd) was the most active Broker with 21.28% stand alone dealing of EBL, tallying 6,188 units worth Rs 9,613,121 via 18 transactions which include 3 matching transactions totaling 4,500 worth Rs 6,975,000.
The week’s turnover was about Rs 382.138 million with average of Rs 95.53 million which was higher by Rs 3.86 million or 4.21% higher than prior week’s average. Overall 1,187,678 units of shares were traded via 4,110 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of the review period was Rs 495,633.25 million.
