Nepse Wrap up (Review period 19th May to 23rd May, 2013)

This week the market index failed to float over the 500 levels as the local bourse made a downfall of 3.06 points to close at 496.88 levels. The benchmark index following the previous week’s closing near to 500 levels, plunged to 497.46 levels by the second day of this week’s trade. However, the market made a comeback on the third day to breach over 500 levels but failed to continue the bullish movement in the last two days of the trade. Apparently the news of Mega Bank Nepal Limited form 2nd June has attracted the investors towards the primary market and made passive in the secondary market in the recent scenario.

Altogether, there were trades of nine sectors in which Hotels, Banking and Others dropped by 12.86, 3.59 and 12.93 points. In case of two of the remaining Banking and Financial Institutions sub-indices, Development made gains of 4.42 points and Finance inclined by 1.49 points. Similarly, Manufacturing and Insurance made a hefty jump of 15.57 and 12.78 points respectively.  As for Hydro and Trading both made surge of 7.98 and 5.83 points respectively. Whereas, Sensitive index declined by 1.21 or 0.96% to settle at 124.34 levels while Float index also lost 0.27 or 0.76% points to settle at 35.48 levels.

Overall, there were only 117 scrips traded among which 46 scrips increased 10 remained intact and 61 scrips decreased. The highest gainer among the scrips traded this week was Arun Finance Limited (ARUN), closed at Rs 48, with Rs 11 or 29.73% gain. Among the shares trading above the par, Nepal Bank Limited (NBL), closed at 174, was the best performer with Rs 29 or 20% gain. Whereas, Siddhartha Finance Limited  (SFL), closed at Rs 116, was the highest loser with Rs 13 or 10.08% loss.

In terms of the highest shares traded among mutual fund, Nabil Balance Fund 1 (NBF1), closed at Rs 11, topped with 422,783 units whereas among the ordinary scrips trading above par, Commerz and Trust Bank Nepal Ltd. (CTBNL), closed at Rs 143, topped with 191,278units. As for highest transaction also, CTBNL topped with 1362 transactions.

In case of highest turnover, Nabil Bank Ltd. (NABIL), closed at Rs 1745, topped with 22,075 units worth Rs 38,235,311 via 77 transactions; in which Broker no 16 (Primo Securities Pvt. Limited) was the most active Broker with 28.48% stand alone dealing of NABIL, tallying 12,626 units worth Rs 21,778,700 via 22 transactions in which  two were matching transactions totaling 160 units worth Rs 279,360.

The week’s turnover was about Rs 356.47 million with average of Rs 71.29 million which is Rs 3.86 million or 5.7% higher than prior week’s average. Overall 1,498,937 units of shares were traded via  5,594 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of the review period was Rs 492,405.22million
