 ShareSansar, 24th Jan:

The profit taking from the investors diluted the market this week. The stock index came to suffer a loss of 8.94 points in total compared to the previous week’s closing level, the local bourse closed at 785.7 levels this week.

Following the upbeat performance of market of the prior week, in which the stock index propelled by 24.88 points, the investors opted to liquidate their position this week, creating a massive selling pressure throughout the week.

Though the benchmark index was able to overcome the selling pressure in first trading day with a gain of meager 0.62 points, the next three consecutive trading days was not the same as the market witness plunge of 4.94, 4.85 and 1.56 points respectively.

However, the scenario was slightly different in last trading day as selling pressure was less while the demands of shares were higher, which attributed to the day’s gain of 1.79 points.

Despite the fact that the numbers of gainer surpassed the loser with 83 to 56 scrips among the 143 traded scrips this week, the decrease in the heavy weighted banking and insurance sectors’ scrips mainly caused the downfall of NEPSE.

Among the 28 scrips traded under banking, 20 scrips suffered loss while among the 17 scrips traded under Insurance 9 suffered loss, which in overall dragged NEPSE and  both sub-indices by 19.35 and 34.33 points respectively.

Similarly, the decrease in the level of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) further dragged the market down; NTC listed Other sector came to drop by 5.87 points this week. Likewise, Hotels also declined by 41.33 points.

Meanwhile, two of the banking and financial sub-indices, i.e. Finance and Development increased by 9.78 and 16.72 points respectively. Alongside them, Hydro, Trading and Manufacturing sector also added 43.40, 0.76 and 2.58 points respectively.

In case of, Sensitive index, which measures the movement of blue chip companies, it declined by 2.65 points to settle at 174.01 levels.  Likewise, Float index, which measures the movement of ordinary shares only, also decreased by 0.56 points to settle at 52.44 levels.

The best performer this week among the traded scrips was Sewa Bikas Bank Limited (SEWA), closed at Rs 242, with a gain of Rs 68 or 39.08 percent. Whereas, Lumbini General Insurance (LGIL), closed at Rs 295, was the worst performer among all with a decline of Rs 57 or 16.19 percent.

The scrip with the highest turnover was Nepal Bank Limited (NBL), closed at 341, with 1,358,695 units worth Rs 508,080,032 which was carried out by 365 transactions.

The total turnover of the market for this week stood at Rs 1,990,869,578, totaling 4,474,624 share units which were traded through 12,914 transactions. The market capitalization at the end of the week tallied at 799,235.70 Millions.
