Nepse Wrap up (Review period 17th March to 20th March, 2014)

Despite the improvement in the later trading days, the Nepse index couldn’t succeed to settle above prior week’s closing level once again. The market index closed 7.80 points below the previous week’s level of 783.08. The benchmark index settled at 775.28 levels.

Coming to this week, Nepse index had witnessed downfall in 10 of the 14 trading days. Though the index had climbed to 64-month high of 831.36 points on February 2, it had loss more than 76 points in the past three weeks.
 
The fear of further plunge in the share price forced the investors to book their profit in first two days, dragging the market by more than thirty points in process. However, the Investors rushed to take the opportunity of low share price of listed companies on third and fourth day which propelled the Nepse index by twenty points.

In spite of rush of buyers in the market in latter days, most of the scrips still suffered loss coming to the end of this week. Insurance scrips experienced the most downfalls as the sector sub-index tumbled by 36.28 points.

Similarly, Development was another sector to witness double digit plunge of 11.37 points. Likewise two of the heavyweight sectors, Banking and Others also declined by 7.23 points and 8.22 points respectively. While, Hydro recovered its loss to sustain meagre fall of 1.23 points.

Finance and Hotels were only the two sub-indices which were able to bounce back to green terrain after its earlier drop. Finance recouped by 1.39 points and Hotels recovered by 3.68 points.

In case of, Sensitive index, which measures the movement of blue chip companies, it declined by 1.40 points to settle at 167.8 level.  While, Float index, which measures the movement of ordinary shares only, decreased by 0.45 point to settle at 52.46 level.

Altogether, there were 145  traded scrips, among which 37 scrips gained, 7 remained intact and 101 scrips lost.

The best performer this week among the traded scrips was Jebils Finance Ltd. (JEFL), closed at Rs 130, with a gain of Rs 18 or 16.07 percent. Whereas, Nepal Insurance Co.Ltd.  (NICL), closed at Rs 659, was the worst performer among all with a decline of Rs 111 or 14.42 percent.

The scrip with the highest turnover was Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC), closed at Rs 4600, with 24,243 units worth Rs 111,347,048 which was carried out by 89 transactions.

The Broker with the highest transaction of NLIC was Broker No 28 (Shree Krishna Securities Limited) with 79.37 percent standalone dealing, totaling 38,445 units worth Rs 176,769,725 via 35 transactions, which include 16 matching transactions, tallying 19,200 units worth Rs 88,282,000.

The total turnover of the market for this week stood at Rs 919,108,175, totaling 2,024,684 share units which were traded through 8254 transactions. The market capitalization at the end of the week tallied at 790,144.32 Millions.
