Nepse Wrap up (Review period 17th February, 2013 to 21st February, 2013)

Following the development of the political consensus in the Chief Justice (CJ) led government on the preceding week; the secondary market of Nepal stared its trade in a very high note this week. The local bourse was all in bullish mark resulting in the 5% circuit breaker after nine months of time, the day’s closing of NEPSE index at 555.93 levels was the 38 months high. However in the subsequent two trading days, the market saw a high selling pressure in these scrips which had increased by 10% in the beginning of the day, resulting in a plunge of Nepse by 7.01 and 9.64 points.
But in the last day of the trade, the easing of the selling pressure in the high gainers’ scrip and increasing presence of buyers in the market helped to propel the market index up by 4.81 points to close at 544.09 levels. As compared to the previous week’s closing, the benchmark index climbed up by 13.89 or 2.62% by the end of the week.
This week saw the second highest turnover made in the history of Nepse worth Rs 256 million following the highest of Rs 271 million set on 26th April, 2012. The average turnover of this week stood at Rs 155 million which is higher by Rs 17 million or 12.57%. In overall, 1636,090 units of share were traded via 5,238 transactions worth Rs 622,204,734. The market capitalization at the end of review period stood at Rs 524,091.63 million which is higher by Rs 13,385.16 million.
Altogether there were trades of nine sectors among which Trading, Manufacturing and Development plummeted by 6.41, 15.57 and 0.94 points compared to previous week’s closing. The drop in Trading and Manufacturing came with the fall in the prices of Bishal Bazaar Co. Ltd. by Rs 114 and Uniliver Nepal Ltd. (UNL) by Rs 300.
Whereas, Hydro, Insurance and Banking had surge of more than 20 points i.e. 39.57, 29.40 and 20.04 points respectively. In Hydro, Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company Limited (AHPC), Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPCL) and Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) soar by Rs 3, Rs 28 and Rs 48 respectively. Likewise in Insurance, Sagarmatha Insurance Co. Ltd (SIC), Life Insurance Co. Nepal (LICN), Shikhar Insurance Co. Ltd. (SICL) and National LifeInsu. Co. Ltd. (NLICL) had a surge of 10.79%, 5.97%, 10.35% and 7.17% respectively.
Similarly in Banking, Everest Bank Ltd, Nabil Bank Ltd., Himalayan Bank Ltd., Janata Bank Nepal Ltd, Global IME Bank Limited, Lumbini Bank Ltd. and Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. were the scrips which added more than 5%. As for Finance, Hotels and Others all also ascend by 1.15, 8.12 and 4.70 points respectively. Among other sub-indices, Sensitive index increased by 3.79 or 2.73% to settle at 142.69 levels while Float index also incline by 0.88 or 2.41% points to settle at 37.36 levels.
Total scrips traded for the week were 113 with 66 gainers, 8 intact and 39 losers; the worst performance in the week was of Subhechha Bikas Bank Limited (SUBBL), closed at Rs 106, with Rs 17 or 13.82% loss. Whereas, the best performance was of Siddhartha Investment Growth Scheme-1 (SIGS1), closed at Rs 14, with Rs 2 or 16.67% gain.
In case of the highest shares traded and turnover, Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBB), closed at Rs 294, topped with 443 transactions totaling 236,668 units worth Rs 72,759,267; in which Broker No 28 (Shree Krishna Securities Limited) was the active broker with 38.15% stand alone dealing of NBB, tallying 54,100 units worth Rs 27,754,506 via 103 transactions which includes 8 matching transactions totaling 9,569 units worth Rs 6,272,347.
