Nepse Wrap up (Review period 15th to 18th April, 2013)

As the last week of B.S. 2069 ended with a happy note with the increment of 10.13 points in the local bourse; the beginning of the trading in the secondary market for the year 2070 B.S. was disappointing as the benchmark index came down by 4.35 or 0.83% than the prior week’s closing level.

In the entire week’s session, the market index stayed in the red as the lack of any financial news made the market dull this week. However, with the publication of the third quarter report from the listed companies in the upcoming days, the market movement will surely notch up a gear in the coming weeks.

Among the performance of sub –indices this week, Hotels made the highest gain with 11.15 points followed by Others sector with a 3.52 points incline. As for Manufacturing, it remained intact at 840.23 levels this week. Whereas, Insurance suffered a loss of 2.10 points following plunge in most of the traded scrips under it.

In case of the Banking and Financial Institutions sub-indices, Banking lost 8.42 points, Development made decline  of 0.79 points and Finance plummeted by 0.53 points. Likewise, Hydro also suffered a loss of 2.12 points despite the gain in National Hydropower Company Limited (NHPC) which resumed its trading from 17th April after clearing its due listing fee.

Overall there were only 103 scrips traded among which 30 scrips increased 10 remained intact and 63 scrips decreased. The highest gainer among the scrips traded this week was Surya Life Insurance Company Limited (SLICL), closed at Rs 195, with Rs 19 or 10.79% gain. Whereas, Kumari Bank Limited Promoter Share (KBLPO), closed at Rs 100, was the highest loser with Rs 37 or 27% loss. Among the ordinary scrips trading above par, Siddhartha Insurance Limited (SIL), closed at Rs 184, was the worst performer with Rs 23 or 11.11% loss.

In terms of the highest shares traded, Kumari Bank Limited Promoter Share (KBLPO), closed at Rs 100, topped with 200,250 units whereas  among the ordinary scrips, Civil Bank Ltd (CBL), closed at Rs 157, topped with 118,977 units; the scrip also had the highest transactions this week with 543 times.

In case of highest turnover, Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC), closed at Rs 214, topped with 32,642 units worth Rs 68,772,997 via 90 transactions; in which Broker no 13 (Thrive Brokerage House Pvt. Limited) was the most active Broker with 48.73% stand alone dealing of NLIC, tallying 15,820 units worth Rs 33,267,799 via 21 selling transactions.

The week’s turnover was about Rs 366.676 million with average of Rs 91.663 million which was higher by Rs 16.05 million or 21.23% higher than prior week’s average. Overall 1,179,246 units of shares were traded via 4,095 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of the review period was Rs 504,105.96 million.
