Nepse Wrap up (Review period 14th October to 18th October, 2012)

After more than two years of downturn in the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse), the market has made its way in the upward trend. This week, Nepse reached the two year high at 436.7 level; before this the highest level  reached this year was on 8th May, 2012 at 432.82 levels. The current surge in the Nepse has helped to bring back the interest in the secondary market that was seen during the local bourse trading in the highs of 1,000 level.

As this week was the last week before Dashain holidays , the market closed in very high note as the index added 12.27 or 2.89% points. With the festive season and news of the mutual fund scheme of Siddharthe Capital to be launched soon in the market, the sentiment of the investors went positive towards the market index.

All of the sub-indices were better off than the previous week, two of the main sectors that increased the most were Others and Hydro. Others sectors made a gain of 29.37 points as the scrip of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC)  made the gain of Rs 25. Since the NTC is one of the scrips that will certainly come under the investment  portfolio of the Siddhartha Capital Mutual fund scheme, there is a high attractiveness of this scrip among the investors. Similarly, as in the case of Chilime Hydro Power Co. (CHCL) which have helped the scrip to add Rs 37 this week. With the increase in CHCL along with Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPCL) and Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company Limited (APCL) by Rs 20 and Rs 4 respectively, the Hydro sector also made a hefty gain of 31.13 points.

As for the remaining sub-indices, Banking added 12.21 points. In Banking, there were only two decliners among the 25 scrips traded this week. The companies like HBL, SCB, EBL, MBL and  LBL were able to add hefty  in their respective tally. Whereas Finance and Development were able to add meager points , Finance climbed by 0.06 points and Development rose by 0.95 points. Likewise, Hotels and Insurance added 4.45 and 9.40 points respectively. The surge in Insurance came with the leap in the price of Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC), Shikhar Insurance Co. Ltd. (SICL) and Sagarmatha Insurance Co. Ltd (SIL) by Rs 55, Rs 27 and Rs 22 respectively.

Among other sub-indices, Sensitive index added 3.45  or 3.16% to settle at 112.48 levels while Float index also inclined by 0.73 or 2.41% points to settle at 31.06 levels .

In overall week transaction, Machhachapuchhre Bank Ltd (MBL), closed at Rs 146, was the Top Gainer with Rs 38 or 24.68%. On the other side, Multipurpose Finance Co. Ltd. (MPFL), closed at Rs 83, was the Top Loser with Rs 27 or 24.54%. Whereas among the share trading above par value, Reliable Finance Limited (RIBSL), closed at Rs  117, was the Top Loser with Rs 33 or 22%.

In case of highest share traded, Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBBL), closed at 169, topped with 48,360 units. Whereas in the category of highest transaction and turnover Everest Bank Ltd (EBL), closed at Rs 1171, topped with 32,892 units worth Rs 37,859,655 via 257 transactions; in which Broker No 6 (Agrawal Securities Pvt. Limited) was the most active broker with 20.83% stand alone dealing of EBL, totaling 6,868 units worth Rs 7,886,554 via 36 transactions which includes 8 matching transactions of  2,268 units worth Rs 2,622,130.

Total scrips traded for the week were 121 with 73 gainers, 19 intact and 29 losers .Overall week’s turnover was about Rs 165,791,476 which is comparatively Rs 267,716,914 or 61.75% lower than the prior week. Overall 613,956 units of shares were traded via 4,286 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of the review period was Rs 413,532.87 million which is higher by Rs  11,618.12 million compare to previous week’s closing.
