Nepse wrap up as of 15th –19th July 2012

This week was very exciting for Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) as the index halted at the 36 trading days’ highest level of 395.46 points.With the ending of the fiscal year and high hopes of the investor from the budget, the week’s session traded with the positive note as the benchmark index rose by 6.24 points to closed at 389.72 level. But with the budet failing to address the capital market issues, the following day Nepse skid by 5.01 points to close at lowest level of the week at 384.92 level.However, after the decline Nepse bounched back for the three consecutive days as the news of increase in profit of commercial banks during 2068/69 in different newspapers and talks of implementation of margin lending against share purchase receipt helped to uplift the sentiments of the investors.

From this week Summit Micro Finance Development Bank Limited (SMFDB ) transaction took place in Nepse. The share of the company traded at the highest of Rs 193 and lowest of Rs 173 and closed at Rs 189 this week.Similarly, Janata Bank Limited (JBNL) transaction also initiated from this week. The stock traded at the highest of Rs 190 and lowest of Rs 154 and closed at Rs 154. In the intial day of JBNL transaction,all the deal below the range of Rs 184 were cancelled by Nepse because of the violation of trading range by brokers. As per the Nepse trading rule the trading price movement should be within the 2% range of the last traded price which was not applied below the range of Rs 187. Both the newly listed companies’ (SMFDB) and (JBNL) investors seems to have not been able to track the right range for trading which made these stocks volatile this week.

In this week’s trading session, Agricultural Development Bank Ltd (ADBL) which had the highest transantion for the week with 486 times closed at Rs 198, was the Top Gainer with Rs 47 or 31.13%. On the other side, Kankai Bikas Bank Ltd. (KNBL), closed at Rs 114, was the Top Loser with Rs 30 or 20.83%. Likewise, with 187,307 units KIST Bank Limited (KIST), closed at Rs 127, had the highest share traded. All in all, with 57,516 units worth Rs. 57,731,409 via 353 transactions Everest Bank Limited (EBL), closed at Rs 1055, was the top performer in terms of highest turnover in overall week’s session; in which Broker No 10 (Pragyan Securities Pvt. Limited) was most active broker with 66.82% stand alone dealing of EBL, amounting Rs 38,576,421 via 172 transactions of 38,621 units which includes matching of 21,782 units worth Rs 21,693,090 via 3 transactions.

Except Finance sector loss of 1.59 or 0.60% to settle at 263.73 level, all other remaining sub-indices rose as compared to prior week’s closing level. With 13.72 or 3.89% points climb, Banking was the top gainer which settled at 366.18 level. Similarly, other major gainers for this week were Hydro sector followed by Others, Insurance, Development and Hotels sub-indices with 3.29%, 3.06%, 2.81%, 2.12% and 0.08% points respectively. All in all, Sensitive index gained 3.26 or 3.31% to settle at 101.88 level while Float index added 0.70 or 2.31% points than preceding week’s final level of 30.26.

Total scrips traded for the week were 112 with turnover of Rs 369,918,680 which is comparatively Rs 52,298,330 or 16.46% higher than prior week. Overall 1,523,224 units of shares were traded via 5788 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of review period was Rs 373,678.26 millions which is higher by Rs 11334.15 millions compare to previous week’s closing.
