NEPSE WENT DOWNHILL

The benchmark index, Nepse, today also went downhill as the market suffered a loss of 4.8 points to close at 513.28 levels. From the opening session, the local bourse was all in red as it opened below the yesterday’s closing and remained to do so till the end of the session. With the heavy drop in the Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC), the market showed no resistance for bounce and the drop in the Banking scrip further ignited in the market loss today.  

The presence of the investors in the recent days seems to have come down a notch as the turnover amount has been in the line of Rs 70 million since past three days which used to be around the average of Rs 90 to Rs 100 million in the previous weeks. The soon to come IPO of Mega bank limited seems to have lured the investors to holding their fund for the company’s IPO which will be coming out probably in the month of Baisakh, 2070.

The turnover amount today also stood in the line of Rs 70 million i.e. 77,694,777. The total traded shares were 254,693 units which were carried out by 1198 transactions. The market capitalization with today’s fall came below the Rs 500 thousand million mark as tallied around Rs 498,342.14 at the end of the day.

As mentioned above the fall in the NTC today mainly caused the downfall of the market, the scrip came down by Rs 7 which also dragged the Others sector by 8.23 points. Likewise, the drop in the levels of Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company Limited (AHPC), Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPCL) and Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) by Rs 6, Rs 15 and Rs 8 pushed the Hydro sector further deep in the south zone by 10.8 points.

In banking today, the decrease in the level of Standard Chartered Bank Ltd (SCB), Everest Bank Ltd (EBL), Nabil Bank Ltd. (NABIL), Bank of Kathmandu (BOK), Nepal Investment Bank Ltd. (NIB) and Machhapuchhre Bank Ltd (MBL) by double digit pulled the sector down by 5.71 points. Likewise, Development sector plunged by 0.88 points while Finance remained intact at 251.89 levels. Today one of the finance company i.e. Srijana finance Ltd. (SFFIL), closed at Rs 99, announced its book closure date for 1:2 right share  at 11th April, 2013. Despite the announcement, the scrip was not well received in the market as it tumbled by Rs 11 or 10%, making it the highest loser of the day.

Similarly, Insurance sector also plummeted by 2.55 points following the decline in Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd.  (NLIC), Prime Life Insurance Company Limited (PLIC) and Sagarmatha Insurance Co. Ltd  (SICL). Correspondingly, Premier Insurance Co. Ltd. (PICL) has proposed 15% bonus share which is subject to approval from Beema Samati and its upcoming AGM. Whereas, Hotels was the only sector which surge by 5.18 points today. The gain in the scrip of Soaltee Hotel Ltd. (SHL) by Rs 4 mainly contributed in the sector’s growth today.

Overall there were trades of 85 scrips among which only 20 scrips increased 10 remained intact and 55 scrips decreased. The highest gainer for the day was, Kathmandu Finance Limited (KFL), closed at Rs 122, with Rs 10 or 8.93% gain. In case of the highest shares traded, Siddhartha Investment Growth Scheme-1 (SIGS1), closed at Rs 11.51, topped with 49,820 units.

In terms of turnover, Bank of Kathmandu (BOK), closed at Rs 665, topped with 16,298 units worth Rs 10,813,213 via 81 transactions.; in which Broker no 6 (Agrawal Securities Pvt. Limited) was the most active Broker with 43.61% stand alone dealing of BOK, tallying 7,125 units worth Rs 4,715,793 via 22 transactions which includes 2 matching transactions totaling 3,099 units worth Rs 2,045,340.
