Nepse transactions up‚ gains 3.83 points

Transaction volume in Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) leapt by 53 per cent on the week preceding Dashain holidays -September 25 to 29. Although the benchmark index remained sort of immovable throughout the week, the first day’s gain has made the index move up by 3.83 points. On Sunday morning the stock market opened at 327.57 points that went up to 331.58 points by the end of the day’s trading. Next three days the index remained almost static as it hovered over 331 points. By the end of the week Nepse index stood at 331.40 points. The stock exchange witnessed 579,583 unit shares of 103 companies worth Rs 138.2 million being traded through 3847 transactions in the four trading days. The sensitive index went up by 1.14 points reaching 81.85 points. Among the total transactions, the trading of class ‘A’ companies consisted of 72.36 per cent amounting to Rs 100 million. Nepal Telecom’s Rs 11 gain has pushed others subgroup by 3.83 points. Hydropower subgroup and insurance subgroup also went up by 6.91 points and 5.71 points, respectively. Bishal Bazaar Company also gained Rs 55 per unit share so that trading subgroup rose by 4.63 points. Commercial banks gained 3.08 points in the week’s trading.

Development banks and finance companies went down by 0.12 points and 0.2 points respectively. Soaltee Hotel lost Rs 13 on unit share so that hotels subgroup went down by 2.07 points. Laxmi Bank topped the charts in terms of transaction amount and number of shares traded with 182,450 unit shares worth Rs 44.8 million. Kamana Bikas Bank was forerunner with 593 transactions. The top five performers are Laxmi Bank (Rs 44.88 million), Nepal Investment Bank (Rs 14.88 million), Nabil Bank (Rs 11.35 million), Nepal Life Insurance Company (Rs 10.93 million) and Bank of Kathmandu (Rs 5.13 million).
