NEPSE Transaction amount drops, plunges to 61-month low 333.76-pt

KATHMANDU, June 5:
The current bearish trend of secondary market has brought transaction amount to drop 21.70 per cent compared to a week ago. This week Nepse’s trading floor observed 227,455 unit shares of 110 companies worth Rs 61.59 million being traded through 5,105 transactions in the four trading days.

The secondary index plunged by 10.74 points — as a continuation to its bearish trend — a sixty-one month low in the week’s trading. This week also hydropower subgroup headed the losers’ pack for third consecutive week, while all of the subgroups except for finance companies ended up in red zone.

Hydropower subgroup did not lose as massively as last two weeks but lost 22.11 points due to Chilime Hydropower — with its ongoing IPO — that lost Rs 38 per share and Butwal Power Company that lost Rs 26 per share pulling the hydropower subgroup down.

Others subgroup lost 20.62 points as Nepal Telecom lost Rs 3 per share, whereas Bishal Bazaar Company’s loss of Rs 171 on unit share brought the trading subgroup by 14.65 points. Unilever Nepal also lost Rs 110 on unit share causing the manufacturing subgroup to go down by 5.71 points.

The losses of major commercial banks throughout the week brought down banking subgroup by 12.74 points. Development banks and insurance companies also lost 3.03 points and 2.56 points, respectively.

Only the finance company subgroup gained 1.24 points this week that saw Chilime Hydropower Company topping the charts in terms of transaction amount with the transaction volume of Rs 7.83 million. In terms of numbers of shares traded Prime Commercial Bank was the forerunner as the bank’s 22,283 unit shares were traded. Jyoti Bikas Bank topped the number of transactions with 577 transactions. Sagarmatha Merchant Banking and Goodwill Finance’s bonus shares and Swabalamban Laghubutta Bikas Bank’s right shares were listed in Nepse.
