Nepse surges on New Year first day
KATHMANDU,JAN 2:
The share market ended the first day of the New Year on a positive note as the long beaten Nepse gained 2.74 points on the first trading day of the year.
The market opened at 316 points in the morning and closed at 318.74 points today after a long spell of poor performance.
The sensitive index showcasing the performance of blue chip shares also went up by 0.78 points.
Likewise, the performance of the shares actually traded during the day also did well as the float index went up by 0.24 points.
Last year was not good for the capital market as index had reached 292.32 points on July 6, the five-year lowest point.
Since then market had reached 378.14 points on August 17 but the journey onward was downhill.
The days gain was courtesy others, commercial banks and development bank subgroups that gained 5.87 points, 3.69 points and 0.14 point, respectively.
Nepal Telecom’s share price surged by Rs 5 per unit on the day’s trading pushing the others subgroup up, whereas Hydropower subgroup lost.
