Nepse sheds 6.46 points despite good returns from listed cos

The Nepse index fell by 6.46 points today to close at 913.42 levels despite the ongoing series of impressive dividend declaration by the listed companies, especially the banking groups.
Though the scrips of some mid-cap banks as well as a few development banks and MFIs continued to surge today also, the market could not surge as expected as the four out of seven sub-indices shed points today.
Ironically the Banking group, which covers around 80 percent of the market capitalization, lost 7.97 points to close at 820.34 levels. The Finance group also shed 7.75 points while the Development Bank group posted a marginal growth of 0.22 points.
Hydropower and Insurance groups were among big losers today as they shed 23.16 points and 30.13 points respectively. The Others group lost 2.35 points.
The Hotel group, on the other hand, gained 48.07 points and the Manufacturing group, too, made a gain of 2.46 points.
The total market capitalization today stood at Rs 48.35 crore, slightly higher than Rs 46.62 crore of yesterday.
One of the possible reasons for today’s slight fall could be the general tendency among many investors to take short-term positions for quick money, according to market experts.
