Nepse sheds 16.3 points; turnover, too, drops to Rs 28.3 crore

The benchmark index of Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (Nepse) continued to fall today, on the first trading day of the week, to close at 883.51 level, losing 16.38 points or 1.82 percent.
Dragged by the selling pressure, the market kept on sliding down in the first half of the trading and reached as low as 878 levels, and then started to climb in the second half.
The only secondary market of the country was basically brought down by the banking scrips, which have been falling despite offering good returns. The Banking group, which covers around 80 percent of the market-cap, shed 21.39 points to close below 800 levels. In fact, six out of the seven sub-indices lost today. The only group to stay in the green zone was the Others group, which posted a gain of 10.58 points.
Hotels group lost 21.85 points, Development Bank group shed 12.03 points, Hydropower 46.92 points, Finance 4.83 points and the Insurance group lost staggering 61.09 points today.
The total market turnover was also pretty low today as compared to the recent weeks as it stood just at Rs 28.34 crore.
