With the announcement of the budget yesterday, many had predicted that the market will rise today but all approved wrong as the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) came below 500 mark to settle at 499.31 points. Despite the drop of 2.20 points, the market movement was overall signaling a positive indication for the future days to come. The market index that had dropped by more than 10 points within the first hour of the trade because of the profit booking in Banking scrips, retrieved its way back in the later hours of the trade as the buying pressure increased.

The turnover of the market today was 153,150,473 which is higher by 11,633,925 or 8.2% than yesterday’s trade. Overall, 438,404 units were traded via 1,919 transactions which too was higher than the previous day. All this indicates towards a high presence of investors in the market which will be good for the movement and sustainability of the secondary market in the future.  The market capitalization today stood around Rs 472,799.67 million.

Among the sub-indices, Hotels and Insurance increased by 31.79 and 11.19 points respectively. Today also the increase in Soaltee Hotel Ltd. (SHL) by Rs 24 helped in Hotels growth. Whereas, the hefty increase in Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC) by Rs 80 mainly contributed in Insurance jump.

As for the rest of the sub-indices, all declined than previous day.Banking sector came down by 3.67 points as the correction in most of the Banking scrips like SCB, NABIL, EBL, SBI, SBL and NIB mainly dragged the sector down.  Whereas the one of the high movers in the Banking scrip, Nepal Bangladesh Bank (NBB) closed intact at Rs 269 despite trading at the high range of Rs 295 today. Likewise, Himalayan Bank Ltd. (HBL), closed at Rs 900, also closed intact at Rs 900 despite its proposal of 13.42% cash dividend and 15% bonus share to its shareholders today.

Similarly, Others, Development and Finance came down by 2.35, 2.31 and 0.88 points respectively. Whereas the fall in the price of Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPHL) and Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) by Rs 15 and Rs 10 respectively made the Hydro sector plummet by hefty 11.45 points.

Overall there were 79 scrips traded among which 24 scrips increased, 11 remain intact and only 44 scrips decreased. The highest Gainer of the day was Lumbini Finance Ltd. (LFIC), closed at Rs 172, with  7.50% .Whereas Nepal Housing and Merchant Finance (NHMF), closed at Rs 198, was the Top Loser with 9.59%.


In terms of highest share traded and Turnover, Nepal Bangladesh Bank (NBB) topped with 80,316 units worth Rs 21,974,196 via 224 transaction; in which Broker No 56 (Sri Hari Securities Pvt. Ltd.) was the most active broker with 17.67% stand alone dealing of NBB, tallying 14,135 units worth Rs 3,883,200 via 33 transactions which includes 2 matching transactions totalling 4,000 units worth Rs 1,096,000.
