NEPSE PLUNGES DESPITE SOAR IN TURNOVER

In spite of the increase in turnover by 19.14%, the market index came down by 2.88 points to close at 514.17 points. With the increasing conflict in the political arena of the country, the investors are taking precautions to enter in the market. However, the surge in the today’s turnover justifies that there are investors who are still optimistic towards the upcoming days; the turnover today stood at Rs 91,595,059. The numbers of transaction and shares traded also had a jump today as 544,406 units of shares were traded by the 1148 transactions.  As for the market capitalization, it stood at Rs 495,472.80 million at the end of the day.

There were altogether trades of eight sectors today also; in which Manufacturing sector made gains of 10.17 points.  The increase in the price of Uniliver Nepal Ltd. (UNL) by Rs 196 mainly boosted the sector today. Whereas, Hydro sector suffered the highest loss of 11.86 points following the drop in the level of all the stocks traded under it i.e. decline in Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company Limited (AHPC), Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPCL) and Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) by Rs 10, Rs 10 and Rs 12 respectively.

While, drop in the level of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) by Rs 4 today also pulled the Others sector down by 4.69 points. Likewise, plummet in the price of Soaltee Hotel Ltd (SHL) by Rs 6 dragged the Hotels sector by 9.75 points. Similarly, Insurance made a descent of 4.44 points mainly complemented by the fall in the value of Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC) and National Life Insu. Co. Ltd. (NLICL) by Rs 20 and Rs 11 respectively.

As for Banking and Financial Institutions sub-indices, all three i.e. Banking, Development and Finance plummeted by 2.67, 2.59 and 0.35 points respectively. Under Banking, the scrips of Nepal Bank Limited (NBL), Nepal Investment Bank Ltd. (NIB), Standard Chartered Bank Ltd. (SCB) and NABIL Bank Limited Promoter Share (NABILPO) had the loss of double digits i.e. Rs 20, Rs 12, Rs 10 and Rs 20 respectively.

Whereas, Vibor Bikas Bank Limited (VBBL), closed at Rs 91, despite its successful merger with Bhajuratna Fin. And Sav. Co. Ltd. and resumption of trading from yesterday, the investors seem to have less confidence and attraction towards this company as the scrip today also came down by a double digit number of Rs 10 or 9.90%, making it the highest loser among the traded shares today.

Overall there were only 89 scrips traded among which 17 scrips increased, 15 remain intact and 57 scrips decreased. The highest gainer for the day was, Shangrila Development Bank Ltd.  (SADBL), closed at Rs 130, with Rs 5 or 4% gain. In case of highest share trade, Siddhartha Investment Growth Scheme-1 (SIGS), closed at Rs 12.31, topped with 278,700 units.

In terms of turnover, Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBB) , closed at Rs 242, topped with 101,705 units worth Rs 25,142,445 via 81 transactions; in which Broker no 20 (Sipla Securities Pvt. Limited) was the most active Broker with 88.85% stand alone dealing of NBB, tallying, 90,270 units worth Rs 22,339,290 via 45 selling transactions.
