Nepse once again bearish

Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) witnessed sharp fall of 8.45 points this week– September 11 to 16.

The stock market is retracing steps back to the place it was two months ago, when Nepse index went as low as 292 points. Nepse had progressed to 380 points in July but once again it is falling.

Nepse index that had plunged below 350 points three week ago slumped below 320 points this week. On Monday morning the stock market opened at 329.63 points that declined to 327.63 points by the end of the day’s trading. Next two days also the index went further down to 319.35 points. On the last trading day the index crawled up a little to 321.18 points.

The stock exchange witnessed 527,176 unit shares of 115 companies worth Rs 108.9 million being traded through 6220 transactions in the four trading days. This is 27.79 per cent decline in the trading volume in comparison to that of last week.

The sensitive index that measures performance of Class ‘A’ companies went down by 2.35 points reaching 78.86 points on the week’s trading. Among the total transactions, the trading of blue chip stocks of class ‘A’ companies consisted of 57.85 per cent amounting to Rs 63 million.

The float index that indicates the performance of the actual shares traded throughout the week also diped by 1.02 points. This week, all of the subgroups ended up in red except for trading subgroup.

Hydropower companies headed the losers’ pack with the loss of 11.47 points followed by banks that lost 10.85 points due to loss of major commercial banks.

Nepal Telecom’s loss of Rs 6 per unit share caused the others subgroup to loose 7.05 points. The insurance companies and development banks also went down by 7.81points and 5.05 points, respectively followed by finance companies that lost 3.5 points. No trade of Manufacturing and hotels sectors this week.
