NEPSE Loses 19.84 Points Amidst Confusion and Resistance Regarding MCC; Intraday Turnover Shrinks to Rs. 3.026 Arba

The NEPSE index closed at 2,734.44 today after losing 19.84 points from yesterday's closing. The index had gained 53.3 points yesterday. 

The Millennium Challenge Corporation-Nepal Compact was planned to be tabled in the House on Wednesday. After multiple deferrals following differences over the MCC compact, a $500 million American grant, a House meeting was scheduled for today.

However, political groups against MCC protested, and the schedule was obstructed. As such, investors seem to have been in a state of confusion.

The index opened at 2,759.37 today and created the intraday high at 2,771.61. Although it went as low as 2,725.34, it ultimately closed at 2,734.44.

231 scrips traded hands via 39,668 transactions. Furthermore, a total of 5,652,182 shares exchanged hands amounting to Rs. 3.026 Arba in the turnover amount. This is lower than yesterday's turnover of Rs. 3.233 Arba.

Api Power Company Ltd. (API) had the highest turnover of Rs. 21.14 crores closing at a market price of Rs. 523 per share. The shares of National Hydro Power Company Limited (NHPC) traded the most.

Gurans Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (GLBSL) gained the highest 3.44% and closed at Rs. 1,355.

Meanwhile, Buddha Bhumi Nepal Hydropower Company Limited (BNHC) has lost the highest 5.69% and closed at Rs. 646.

Only two sector indices closed green today. "Others" gained the highest 0.44% and "Hydropower" lost the highest 2.18%.
