KATHMANDU, FEB 01:

The share market’s poor performance continued as the index closed at 510.88 points today — the last day of January — from the 530.79 points registered at the beginning of the month.

The market lost 19.91 points in a month as the price of shares belonging to banks and financial institutions, and hydropower companies — the key subgroups — continuously dropped.

The share market that witnessed a high of 541.1 points in December 2012 — highest in around three years — started dropping since the beginning of 2013 due to

the prolonged political transition that has discouraged investors.

Today, all the subgroups — banks, development banks, finance companies, hydropower, hotels and others — lost but the insurance and trading subgroups registered gains. Shares of Bishal Bazaar gained Rs 35 per unit to close at Rs 1828 per unit that has propelled the trading subgroup.

Similarly, some insurance companies gained to push the insurance subgroup up by 1.15 points to close at 815.24 points today.

However, the float index — that is based on actual trading — lost 0.075 points to close at 34.83 points.

The share market is likely to continue to fall in the coming weeks.
