KATHMANDU, APR 17 -
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) posted growth for the second consecutive week following a significant rise in the indices of four sub-groups—hydropower companies, others, commercial banks and development banks.

The NEPSE index gained 6.53 points to close at 373.22 points on Wednesday, last trading day of the week. Although the stock market witnessed accent for the second consecutive week after a long bearish run, it is difficult to confirm whether it is sustainable. With the third quarter of the current fiscal already completed, investors might have sought to close their books with improved returns.

On the other hand, insurance companies, finance companies and hotels dropped 36.0 points, 3.46 points and 1.13 points, respectively. The manufacturing and processing companies and trading companies did not see any change in their indices.

The market turnover, however, slid by 41.86 percent compared to that of the previous week, as trading days were reduced due to two public holidays. Last week, NEPSE recorded a turnover of Rs 54.34 million against Rs 93.47 million in the previous week.

A total of 216,690 shares of 98 companies changed hands through 5,687 transactions last week. Stocks of Nepal Telecom registered the highest turnover of Rs 8.26 million.
