NEPSE drops a meagre 0.94 pt

KATHMANDU, MAR 27 -The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), despite dull performance of most of the sub-sectors, did not fluctuate much last week. The secondary market, which had closed at 377.60 points on Sunday, settled at 376.67 points, shedding just 0.94 point.

Last week, the others sector was the lone gainer, posting an ascent of 16.44 points.While, development banks dropped the most—4.59 points, finance companies, commercial banks and insurance companies plunged 4.24 points, 4 points and 2.99 points, respectively. Similarly, Hotels, manufacturing and processing companies and hydropower companies declined 2.83 points, 1.02 points and 0.63 points, respectively. The capital market also witnessed a decline in the number of shares traded compared to previous week, affecting the overall turnover. Over the week, the NEPSE registered a turnover of just Rs 76.42 million, against Rs 99.39 million in the previous week.

A total of 347,562 shares of 127 companies changed hands through 8,424 transactions. In the previous week, the bourse had registered trading of 517,178 shares of 123 companies.

Last week, Bank of Kathmandu topped the charts in terms of turnover as well as number of shares traded. The bank posted a turnover of Rs 5.92 million from the trading of 40,300 shares. Jyoti Bikas Bank claimed the pole position in terms of the highest number of transactions as its stocks were traded 973 times.

Last week, a total of 1,479,269 bonus shares of Machhapuchhre Bank were listed in the domestic capital market.
