KATHMANDU, JAN 18 -

Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) surged 12.43 points to close at 794.39 points last week.

The secondary market, which closed at 781.96 points on Sunday, rose successively for rest of the week, with the highest growth (7.34 points) seen on Thursday.

Stockbrokers termed the recent trend of slight fluctuation in the benchmark index “a sign of stability”. The market, which surged notably right after the constituent assembly (CA) election, has come down to some extent in the recent days.

Anjan Raj Paudel of Thrive Brokerage House said old investors are increasingly investing compared to the new ones. “After booking profits from shares they had held for a long, most of the old investors are on a buying spree,” he said.

Except for manufacturing and trading groups, all the sub-indices posted gains. The hotel sub-index (up 110.41 points) led the gainers side, followed by hydropower, insurance companies and development banks. The trading group was the only loser — down 10.12 points.

The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, was up 2.47 points to close at 195.17 points.
