The NEPSE index closed at 1,782.81, gaining 4.69 points from last week's close. On the last trading day last week, NEPSE had gained an enormous 36.32 points.
Because of this massive intra-day gain, it is natural to have the big day followed by a day of uncertainty. Thus, NEPSE witnessed intense intra-day action today, with the highest point being 1,811.63 and the lowest being 1,761.75. Thus, the index played in an impressively wide range of 49.88 points today.
16,034,717 shares traded hands via 63,570 transactions. This is the second-highest transaction figure seen in a single day in NEPSE's history. Trading of 201 scrips brought the total turnover to a little over Rs. 6.90 Arba. Thus, this is also the highest single-day turnover in NEPSE's history. Interestingly enough, this figure is rivaled by the turnover figure of the last trading session, when NEPSE gained Rs. 6.11 Arba worth of turnover last Thursday.
Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) has the highest individual scrip turnover of a little over Rs. 57.91 crores. Meanwhile, the shares of Prabhu Bank Limited (PRVU) gained the most. PRVU is also the third-highest gainer today, gaining an impressive 6.71%.
While Citizens Mutual Fund - 2 (CMF2) hit 10% positive circuit today, Mountain Hydro Nepal Limited (MHNL) lost the most 8.93%.
Only three sectors gained today while nine others closed red. The Trading sector, which had been gaining aggressively in the last sessions, saw a minor pullback of 5.69%. On the other side of things, Banking gained 2.23%. The Banking sector had been sluggish while other sectors rallied in the previous sessions. Thus, today's spike in the sector's trading volume and significant index gain has attracted investor attention towards this giant sector. Needless to point out, Banking sector has the loudest say on the direction of the Nepalese securities market.
