NEPSE BREACHED 500 BENCHMARK

Nepal Stock Exchange today crossed the 500 mark to settle at 501.51 levels. In overall the benchmark index surged by 8.71 or 1.77% points than previous trading session. Last time the market index traded at this level was in the month of March, 2010. Though the market in the initial hour had made a jump of more than 2.5% points, the profit taking in the blue chip companies narrowed the local bourse to today’s closing level.
The Banking sector today also made a hefty gain as it added 13.52 points. The rise in the Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBB) and Nepal Credit And Com. Bank (NCC) by more than 9.5% mainly contributed in the Banking sector growth today. With the Credit Information Bureau (CIB) blacklisting the NB-Group Chairman along with his counterparts, making them ineligible to be a BOD of any Banking and Financial Institutions. This action has helped to propel the price of these scrips in recent days as NB Group is one of the main stakeholders in both companies. Likewise, the publication of Himalayan Bank Ltd. (HBL), closed at Rs 900, first quarterly report with growth of 21.36% compared to corresponding quarter helped to propel the scrip by Rs 40 today. Apart from it SCB, NABIL, NIB, BOK along with other major commercial banks had a good run today.
Similarly, Development and Finance also jumped by 0.16 and 0.11 points respectively. Likewise, Insurance also climbed up by 6.32 points. The increase in the sector came with the incline in the scrip of Life Insurance Co. Nepal (LICN) and Sagarmatha Insurance Co. Ltd (SIL) by Rs 26 and Rs 28 respectively.
As for Hotels and Hydro, both made a hefty gain of 17.03 and 24.79 points respectively. The surge in the price of Soaltee Hotel Ltd. (SHL) by Rs 12 and Oriental Hotel Ltd. (OHL) by Rs 2 mainly contributed in the Hotels growth. Similarly, the rise in the price of all the three scrip trade under Hydro i.e AHPC, BPCL and CHCL by Rs 7, Rs 30 and Rs 22 respectively supported in the Hydro’s incline. Whereas Others sector only declined by 1.18 points today.
Overall there were 92 scrips traded among which 60 scrips increased, 10 remain intact and only 22 scrips decreased. The highest Loser of the day was a Kaski Finance Limited (KAFIL), closed at Rs 106, with Rs 8 or 7.02% .Whereas Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBB), closed at Rs 269, was the Top Gainer with Rs 24 or 9.80%. It also had the highest share traded and turnover with 65,695 units worth Rs 17,668,230 via 67 transactions.
The total turnover today was Rs 141,516,548 which is comparatively Rs 42,664,805 or 43.16% higher than prior trading session. Overall 416,974 units of shares were traded via 1,796 transactions with the market capitalization of Rs 474,887.56 Millions.
