Nepali Congress Presses for Prime Minister's Response Over Appointment of Home Minister Under Investigation

During today's session of the House of Representatives, the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, demanded answers from the government regarding the appointment of Rabi Lamichhane to the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs, who is the President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and a Member of Parliament.
At the onset of the session, after Congress members had taken their seats, Speaker Devraj Ghimire gave the floor to MP Badri Prasad Pandey. Pandey took a special moment at the beginning of the meeting to address concerns about Lamichhane's appointment, citing allegations that he had been accused of embezzling cooperative funds. Pandey expressed dissatisfaction with Lamichhane's appointments to these key positions, highlighting concerns about the fairness and suitability of the selection process. He specifically questioned Lamichhane's qualifications and background for holding such prominent governmental and political roles.
Pandey demanded a prompt response from Prime Minister Dahal regarding Lamichhane's appointments and urged for transparency and accountability in the decision-making process. Subsequently, Speaker Ghimire emphasized the gravity of the issue and expressed confidence that the government would address the concerns raised by the opposition party. He stressed the importance of upholding integrity and competence in governmental appointments.
