Nepali Congress Escalates Calls for Formal Inquiry Amid Allegations Against Home Minister Lamichhane

The Nepali Congress, the primary opposition party, persists in its demand for the establishment of a parliamentary selection committee to scrutinize Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, who stands implicated in a cooperative fraud case. During a session at the House of Representatives, Nepali Congress MP Sanjay Kumar Gautam reiterated the necessity of a thorough investigation into the Home Minister's alleged involvement. He underscored concerns regarding the impartiality of assessments provided by both the Prime Minister and security agency heads, emphasizing the urgency of forming a parliamentary committee to address the matter promptly.
Expressing reservations over the Chief of Police's exoneration of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in the cooperative fund's misappropriation issue, Congress MP Sanjay Kumar Gautam highlighted lingering doubts surrounding the sequence of events. Despite the Inspector General of Police's assertion of Lamichhane's innocence in the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud, Gautam emphasized the need for comprehensive scrutiny, raising questions about potential conflicts of interest within Lamichhane's ministry. The Nepali Congress has persistently pressed for answers since Falgun 24, initially seeking clarification from the Prime Minister and subsequently demanding the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee.
Refusing to be swayed by political biases, Congress MP Gautam emphasized the moral imperative of addressing concerns raised about Lamichhane's conduct. He invoked an analogy, questioning whether it was sufficient for the Prime Minister to merely commit to apprehending "big fish" while overlooking potential wrongdoing by "small fish." Gautam underscored the seriousness of the matter and the opposition's commitment to parliamentary integrity, urging ruling parties to prioritize the establishment of the inquiry committee to avert potential disruptions.
