Nepal Telecom MD post vacant for six months

The Nepal Telecom has been facing problems relating to policy making and infrastructure development due to delay in the appointment of a new managing director.

The position of the managing director of NT has been lying vacant for the last two months. The position has been lying vacant after the term of Amarnath Singh, former managing director of NT, expired some six months ago.

The implementation of the new projects and plans has been affected because of absence of MD, according to a highly placed official at the NT.

Chet Prasad Bhattarai, former general manager of NT, said, “NT will suffer a huge loss if the government does not fill the vacant post soon.” NT has come up with an ambitious project worth Rs 10 billion for installation of latest communication technology.”

However, Dhruba Prasad Sharma, secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communications, informed that the vacant post would be filled soon. “A cabinet meeting will soon appoint the managing director of NT within a few days,” he added.
