Nepal Telecom Authority to dig out low quality of service
KATHMANDU:
Nepal Telecommunications Authority is trying to identify real determining factor for low quality of service.
Improper network planning by telecom service providers has been identified as a main reason behind poor quality of service from the preliminary research, the authority said.
Geographical Information System (GIS) network planning is a must to ensure good quality of service, deputy director Baburam Dawadi said, adding that some telecom service providers have failed to carry out GIS planning.
Base Transceiver Station (BTS) should be placed based on the planning, he said, adding that the quality of service is affected due to wrong placement of BTS without proper planning.
Mostly, Nepal Telecom has been blamed for placing BTS in improper places renting the houses of near and dear ones of management officials. “It is not baseless accusation,” an employee of Nepal Telecom said, adding that the company should show readiness to investigate whether BTSs have been placed at improper location for better service.
Similarly, service providers’ failure in upgrading optimisation tool is another hindrance for the good quality of service, according to Dawadi. “Quality of service has been hit due to asymmetrical subscriber-channel ratio,” he informed, saying that apart from one or two, many service providers have failed to carry out network optimisation planning. Telecom service providers have been facing problems from locals when they try to place tower in the village.
