Nepal leaves mark in Hong Kong International Travel Expo

KATHMANDU:
Nepal participated in the 29th International Travel Expo (ITE) and MICE Expo Hong Kong in Hong Kong from 11-14 June 2015. Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) and five tourism companies represented Nepal in the global event and exchange programme.
The Nepal stall attracted huge numbers of enthusiastic buyers, media persons and the general public alike, the NTB said.
The buyers were more focused on the post-earthquake visits to Nepal and the general public put their queries on the connectivity and adventure products of Nepal, according to the NTB.
Nepal Dream Travel Service, Red Carpet Tours and Travels, Sunrise International Travel, Nepal Social Treks and Expedition and Worldways Tours and Travels had taken part in the expo as co-exhibitors from Nepal.
On June 11 when the expo kicked off, the NTB, in co-ordination with the Consulate General in Hong Kong, had organised Meet the Press programme to inform the international media about the post-earthquake tourism industry in Nepal.
The expo is an ideal platform for exchange of new ideas, new market products and to a showcase of diverse tourism services to increase prospective travellers from mainland China and Hong Kong.
The expo had drawn 50 countries from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas with over 650 exhibitors.
It covered various travel products and highlights trendy travel themes through displays, demonstrations and seminars, etc. Its profile of international exhibitions and regional trade visitor is effective for both networking and business.

Fund-raising for quake-hit Nepal
One of the highlights of the expo was UNESCO’s fund-raising event for the recovery and restoration of the World Heritage sites damaged in the recent earthquakes in Nepal.
Pun Ping Hung, founding president of Su Yi Chuan Calligraphy Association of Hong Kong, showcased Chinese Calligraphy, a recognised intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2009, at UNESCO’s booth at the expo. His calligraphy work of was used for charity sale at the expo.
Also, President of the Association, Patrick Lau, an experienced architect and hand-sketches lover, also dedicated illustrations works of two important World Heritage sites in Nepal which was produced as souvenir postcards for charity sale at expo, the NTB said.
