Nepal-Korea consultation mechanism meeting held in Seoul

KATHMANDU, March 22:

The 2nd consultation mechanism meeting between the foreign affairs ministries of Nepal and South Korea was held in Seoul on Friday.

During the meeting, the Nepalese delegation raised bilateral issues related to trade, investment and labor. According to a press release issued by Nepali embassy in Seoul, Nepal asked the South Korean government to raise the quota for Nepali workers under the Employment Permit System (EPS) and make Nepali workers eligible for National Pension System of Korea.

The Nepali delegation also requested their Korean counterparts to encourage Korean investors to put their money in Nepal´s priority sectors like hydropower, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure development. Nepali officials also sought Duty Free and Quota Free (DFQF) access for Nepali products in the Korean market.

According to the release, the Korean side also requested the Nepali side do the needful for timely completion of projects being run in Nepal under Korean assistance.

Prior to the meeting, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance Ambika Devi Luitel, who is leading the Nepali delegation, paid courtesy call on Cho Taeyong, deputy foreign affairs minister of Korea, and discussed issues of mutual interest.

Nepal and South Korea are celebrating 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship this year.
