Nepal, India to sign DTAA today

KATHMANDU, NOV 27 - 

Nepal and India are all set to sign the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), which will replace the old agreement signed in 1987. 

Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is arriving on Sunday to ink the deal. Finance Minister Barsaman Pun and Mukherjee will sign the agreement amid a programme at the Prime Minister's Office and in the presence of PM Baburam Bhattarai on Sunday afternoon.

Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday to make preparations for Mukherjee's visit.

Mathai met Chief Secretary Madhav Ghimire at Singha Durbar and discussed the DTAA signing. They also reviewed progress made in implementing the agendas agreed upon during the PM's recent India visit.

Nepal and India were supposed to sign the DTAA during Bhattarai's visit to New Delhi, but the plan was postponed citing need for more preparations.

Upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Mathai said India has an abiding interest in the peace, stability and prosperity of Nepal.
