Nepal Foreign Trade Association Holds Interaction with Customs Officials on Trade Challenges

Nepal Foreign Trade Association held an interaction program with senior officials of the Department of Customs to discuss current issues in the import–export sector. The association highlighted concerns related to customs procedures, tax and duty structures, valuation practices, product classification, penalties, damaged goods, advance rulings, and import regulations.

It also raised issues such as bank hold provisions, mismatch checks, and heavy fines that affect traders. Customs officials emphasized their focus on trade facilitation, transparency, cooperation with the private sector, and reforms under the new customs law, while encouraging businesses to support formal trade and adopt trusted trader practices.
