Nepal Chamber of commerce AGM : Govt committed to creating conducive biz climate: FinMin

Finance Minster Barsha Man Pun has said that the government is committed to create conducive business environment.
During the last seven months the government has prioritised development of the industrial sector, Pun said referring to the announcement of Nepal Investment Year 2012-13, formation of Investment Board, revision of industrial and other related policies and signing of the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA) with India.
“The government is well aware that economic prosperity cannot be achieved without the promotion of the private sector,” said the minister at the 59th annual general meeting (AGM) of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC), adding that the government was trying to accelerate development work through under the private public partnership (PPP) model.
Saying that the government was expecting the private sector’s initiatives to revitalise ailing and closed public enterprises, Minister Pun said, “We will hand over public enterprises to private sector, either under PPA model, or leasing/selling ownership.”
Echoing Pun, Industry Minister Anil Jha said the government announced the investment year so as to work in cooperation with the private sector.
“The campaign will fail if the government and the private sector do not work together,” he said. “We ask the private sector to go hand-in-hand with the government to make Nepal prosperous.”
NCC President Suresh Kumar Basnet demanded that the government prioritise economic agendas.
He asked the government to make clear the three-pillar economic policy and its functioning as it has always confused businessmen and traders. “We don’t want to compete with cooperatives,” he said. “But the government should have a clear strategy on how it could take ahead both cooperatives and the private sector together.”
Basnet also demanded that the government develop food stores in all development regions to ensure food security.
The 59th annual general meeting (AGM) of Nepal Chambers of Commerce (NCC) kicked off here on Sunday.
