Nepal Calls for Chinese Investment in Hydropower, Agriculture, and Infrastructure During Foreign Minister's Diplomatic Visit

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, currently on an official visit to the People's Republic of China, underscored Nepal's significant potential in key sectors such as hydropower, agriculture, and infrastructure during a meeting with Sichuan Provincial People's Government Governor Huang Qiang. Minister Shrestha urged investors from Sichuan to explore investment opportunities in Nepal, highlighting recent efforts to streamline legal, structural, and procedural frameworks to facilitate foreign investment. He assured that Nepal stands ready to welcome foreign investment with open arms.

Emphasizing the importance of cooperation among neighboring countries for expediting Nepal's development process, Minister Shrestha sought Chinese cooperation in addressing the trade deficit and urged for participation from China in Nepal's upcoming third investment conference, appealing to both governmental and private sectors. He lauded the strengthening bilateral relations facilitated by high-level visits between Nepal and China, reaffirming Nepal's steadfast commitment to the One China principle and expressing gratitude for China's longstanding support in Nepal's development endeavors.

Governor Huang of Sichuan Provincial Government reciprocated the sentiment, expressing confidence that the ongoing high-level visit and discussions would significantly contribute to bolstering bilateral ties. He affirmed Sichuan's readiness to contribute to Nepal's development efforts. The delegation-level meeting was attended by Nepali Ambassador to China Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, Joint Secretary Krishna Prasad Dhakal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepali Consul General in Chengdu Mr. Suresh Raut. Representing China, officials from the Sichuan Provincial People's Government, including Deputy Governor Pubu Dunzhu and General Secretary Chen Qing, were present at the meeting.
