Nepal Bankers Association to get new executive committee today
KATHMANDU:
Nepal Bankers’ Association (NBA), an umbrella body of commercial banks in the country, will elect its new executive committee during its 28th annual general meeting tomorrow.
It is almost certain that Upendra Poudyal, CEO of NMB Bank and incumbent vice president of the association, will be elected to the post of the president at the umbrella body unanimously, as no one else had filed candidacy for the post till the deadline last Tuesday.
Among others, Anil Shah, CEO of Mega Bank, is expected to be one of the vice presidents of NBA as he is the only one to file candidacy for the post, which has remained vacant since Sudhir Khatri filed his resignation. It is not sure who will become the other vice president of NBA, as the post will be vacant after Poudyal takes over the helm of the umbrella body.
“Probably, the new executive committee will appoint someone to the post,” an NBA source said.
The NBA generally picks up its president, vice president and members through consensus rather than through competition. The incumbent president, Rajan Singh Bhandari, who is expected to step down tomorrow, also took the helm of the umbrella body through understanding among members.
It is said the NBA has seen members being elected through voting only twice since its establishment.
The NBA’s executive committee comprises a president, two vice presidents, eight members, an immediate past president and an advisor.
