Nepal Bankers Associaltion gets new team

KATHMANDU, MAR 21: 

Nepal Bankers’ Association (NBA) declared two vice presidents and seven executive members elected uncontested today.

Chief executives of Citizens Bank International Rajan Singh Bhandari and NMB Bank Upendra Poudel were elected vice presidents as only two of them had filed their candidacy for the posts. 

Similarly, for the seven executive committee members, chief executive of Nabil Bank Anil Gyawali, chief executive of Janata Bank Bijaya Pant, chief executive of Century Commercial Bank Ganesh Kumar Shrestha, managing director of Kist Bank Kamal Prasad Gnawali, chief executive of Civil Bank Kishore Maharjan, chief executive of Rastriya Banijya Bank Krishna Prasad Sharma and chief executive of Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Joseph Silvanus had filed their candidacy and were declared winners.

According to the bankers, the association was in no mood to hold elections and the current executive committee is a positive message of their unity and purpose.

The committee will have a two-year term. The association elects the president and the executive committee along with two vice presidents every alternative year. It had elected chief executive of Himalaya Bank Ashoke Rana as its president last year and the rest of the executive committee with two vice presidents have been selected today.

Earlier, chief executive of Mega Bank Anil Shah was also vying for the post of vice president but he didnot file his candidacy for the unity of the banking fraternity.

The association, which has 34 members, was established to enhance the interrelationship and coordination among commercial banks and develop a system of fair competition among them. It is holding it annual general meeting on Friday.
