Nepal and India sign DTAA

KATHMANDU, NOV 27 -  

The Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) between Nepal and India has finally been signed. Finance Minister Barsha man Pun and his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukharjee signed the agreement in presence of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai at Pm's official residence in Baluwatar on Sunday. 

Finance Minister of India Pranab Kumar Mukherjee had arrived in the Capital today morning and went straight to the Finance Ministry at Singha Durbar. 

Though anticipated, DTAA was not signed in the last minute during the recent India visit of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai citing ‘technical reasons’.

Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai had arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday to prepare for Mukherjee’s visit on Sunday to sign the DTAA, which would replace the old agreement signed in 1987.

During his stay in Kathmandu, Mukherjee is scheduled to meet President Rambaran Yadav, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, and his Nepali counterpart Barsha Man Pun. Sources close to Mukherjee said he would also be meeting top leaders, including Maoist party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal.
