NEFEMA protest concludes

KATHMANDU, January 20: On the last day of the scheduled protests against the launch of the Biometric Medical Test (Bio-Medical) System, Nepal Foreign Employment Medical Association (NEFEMA) staged a protest at the Department of Foreign Employment in Tinkune yesterday.

Chairperson of NEFEMA Khadga Bahadur Shrestha, who led the protest, submitted a petition to director general at DoFE Rabindra Mohan Bhattarai. Shrestha pointed out that if the Bio-Medical System is introduced then many medical check-up centres will be compelled to shut down as they will not be able to afford the annual renewal charge.

The installation charge for the Bio-Medical System is $8000 (Rs eight lakh approximately) and the renewal charge is Rs 264,000.

Receiving the petition, director general Bhattarai said that the department will refer the matter to the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Earlier NEFEMA had staged protests in front of the Malaysian embassy and also against the Nepali government at Hanumansthan, Anamnagar, on January 16 and 17, respectively.
