KATHMANDU, SEP 26 -
The subscriber base of GSM mobile service operator Ncell has crossed the six-million mark. On the occasion, the company gifted a Pulsar motorcycle to its six millionth lucky subscriber Suman Shrestha of Indra Chowk, Kathmandu on Sunday.

Shrestha became an Ncell subscriber on Sept 13. Abdujabbor Kayumov, chief commercial officer of Ncell, handed over the motorcycle amid a function.

Following its re-branding to Ncell in March 2010, the company has been aggressively expanding its network and adding more subscribers. Ncell said that the growth was made possible by its aggressive marketing, visibility and reliable network available in the country.

“We are always focused on providing reliable and innovative services to our customers,” said Pasi Koistinen, CEO of Ncell. He added that they had been adding solar-powered green towers to ensure uninterrupted service during the load-shedding hours.

Ncell, which is also the first private sector GSM mobile service operator, became the market leader in the GSM segment in the domestic telecom industry in mid-March this year, toppling state-owned telecom giant Nepal Telecom from the top spot. The company has set a target to cover more than 90 percent of the total population areas by the end of 2011.
