NBI seeks early drafting of constitution

KATHMANDU:

National Business Initiative (NBI), an umbrella body of the private sector, has called on leading political parties to immediately come up with a new constitution to ensure political stability in the country.

During meetings with president of Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala and chairman of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist Jhalanath Khanal, NBI president Padma Jyoti said: “Political stability, development of the industrial sector, investment promotion and job creation hinge on early drafting of the constitution.”

He also asked the leaders of the two largest political parties to give priority to economic and private sector development .

During the meeting NC leader Koirala said his party has taken concerns of the private sector seriously and would coordinate with the private sector while charting out a future course. He also said consultations were being held with those unhappy with election results and the constitution will be promulgated within a year of formation of the new government.

UML leader Khanal, on the other hand, said his party expected support of the private sector in the constitution drafting process, economic development and resolution of various problems faced by the country.
