Nano will hit Nepal road
KATHMANDU, JUN 01 -
The much-awaited Nano car has finally arrived in Nepal. Sipradi Trading Pvt Ltd (STPL), authorised distributor of Tata Motors in Nepal, will officially announce the arrival of Nano on Wednesday.
Touted as the cheapest car on the planet, two Nanos will go through 40,000 km covering terrain, cities and landmarks of the country in a Nepal-tour programme, ‘Nano Yatra Nepal’. The rationale behind the tour is to see whether the car suits Nepali road conditions and also to show it to Nepali customers.
In the first month, these two Nanos will travel 10,000 km, covering all major networks of STPL. According to STPL sources, the formal launch of the car will take place after the conclusion of Yatra Nepal. The Nanos that have arrived in Nepal meet Euro 3 standards.
Launched in January 2008 in India, the 624 CC car was initially priced at IRs 100,000. However, Tata has now increased its price to between IRs 1.40 lakh and IRs 1.97 lakh. The four-door Nano is a little over 10 feet long and nearly 5 feet wide. Nepal will be Nano’s second international market. Tata Motors had launched the car in Sri Lanka on Saturday with a price tag starting at IRs 380,000.
