KATHMANDU, June 8:
Nano, dubbed the cheapest car in the world, is going on sale in Nepali market from the first week of July. Customers eager to buy Nano can start booking their order from the last week of June, officials of Sipradi Trading -- the authorized distributor of Tata Motors -- told Republica.

Nano will be available in three different variants -- Nano standard, Nano CX and Nano LX - in Nepal. The company, however, has not unveiled its prices.

"A consignment of Nano for sales in Nepal has already been dispatched (from India)," a highly placed official at Sipradi told Republica.

As the consignment will reach here in about three weeks, the official said Sipradi will accept bookings from last week of June and deliver the cars to the owners from the first week of July.

As a part of marketing Nano in Nepal, Sipradi had brought two units of Nano in Kathmandu on June 1 for the ´Nano Nepal Yatra´ campaign. Officials of Sipradi are driving Nano in different road conditions to demonstrate that the car suits Nepali roads conditions. The campaign plans to cover 10,000 kilometers in the initial phase and another 35,000 kilometers in the second phase, reaching almost everywhere in the country.

“Nano has already been driven through more than 3,000 kilometers successfully and the response it has drawn from probable customers is overwhelming," the official added.

As the cars are being driven through various cities like Narayanghat and Birgunj, more people are getting chances to see it and are enquiring about its prices and options of booking.

"The enquiries are coming from not just the Kathmandu Valley. More than 100 people in each city where Nano reached have said they are ready to book the vehicle," said the official.

However, the company is not accepting booking because it has yet to work out the actual prices of the vehicles.

Considering the existing taxes, Nano could be priced around Rs 800,000, Nano CX around Rs 900,000 and Nano LX around Rs 1.1 million. These models cost Rs 145,000, Rs 180,000 and Rs 210,000 respectively in India.

"However, these are just rough calculations. We will know the exact rates once the consignment is cleared through the customs," said the official.

Nano will be available in colors like Racing Red Ivory White and Summer Blue. Similarly, Nano CX will be available in colors like Racing Red, Ivory White, Summer Blue, Champagne Gold and Lunar Silver, and Nano LX will be available in Sunshine Yellow, Champagne Gold and Lunar Silver.
