The Nagadhunga-Sisne River main tunnel experienced a breach on Monday. Gobind Dumru, deputy director of the project, has stated that completing the remaining works will take an additional year before vehicles can utilize the tunnel.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda inaugurated the tunnel during a special program held inside it on Monday. This infrastructure milestone significantly reduces travel time, allowing commuters to travel from Balambu in Kathmandu to Sisnekhola in Dhading in just 3 minutes.

Construction began on the tunnel route connecting Balambu in Kathmandu to the Sisne River in Dhading approximately 4 and a half years ago. The main tunnel spans 2.688 km, with an emergency tunnel of 2.557 km constructed alongside it, equipped with 7 access points for rescue operations.

Built by Ando Corporation Japan, essential installations such as electricity connections and safety measures will follow the breakthrough of the main tunnel.
