Today, Muslims around the world are celebrating Bakrid (Eid-al-Adha), also known as the Festival of Sacrifice. This significant religious festival commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It is a time for prayer, reflection, and sharing blessings with family, friends, and the less fortunate.
To mark the occasion, the government of Nepal has declared today as a public holiday. In line with the same all public offices and institutions including the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) will remain dormant for the day.
During Bakrid, Muslims gather for special morning prayers at mosques, community centers, and open spaces. These prayers are followed by the ritual sacrifice of an animal, typically a goat or sheep, symbolizing Ibrahim's ultimate act of devotion. The meat from the sacrificed animal is divided into three parts: one for the family, one for relatives and friends, and one for the needy and less fortunate members of the community.
While the festival holds deep religious significance, it also promotes the values of compassion, charity, and unity. It is a time when families come together, exchange greetings, and share festive meals. Traditional delicacies and sweets are prepared, and homes are adorned with vibrant decorations.
Amidst the festivities, it is essential to remember the spirit of Bakrid by extending kindness and generosity to those in need. Many individuals and organizations take this opportunity to engage in acts of charity and contribute to the welfare of their communities.
On this auspicious occasion of Bakrid, we wish all our Muslim viewers and readers a joyous and blessed celebration. May the spirit of sacrifice and compassion inspire us to foster harmony, understanding, and goodwill among all communities.
On behalf of the Sharesansar Family, we extend our warmest greetings to everyone celebrating Bakrid (Eid-al-Adha). May your celebrations be filled with joy and blessings.
